Rumtek Monastery. One of the biggest monasteries in Sikkim. One needs to have ID cards to enter the place and walk for a km or so before you reach the monastery from where you have an amazing view of the valley. The Nalanda University for Buddhist studies in situated right behind the monastery and the monks around the place are enthusiastic and playful. Some won’t even mind posing for the pics 🙂 Don’t forget to take a small break at the Nalanda cafe before you leave the place. Do try the lemon tea from this shop 🙂 The shops outside sell cheap and good quality souvenirs. Visit the first shop during the uphill climb and the last shop during the downhill climb. A kind and cheerful lady runs the shop and the goods are priced appropriately.
